Not sure why this has 3.9 stars. I enjoyed my time in the bookstore. I had the store to myself and a lovely employee suggested a couple of books. I had to stop after I picked up two in less than 5 minutes! ? great recommendations and small chat. Thank you for the lovely welcome and hospitality. I’ll be back when I’ll visit soon.

A place one must stop on Frenchman! Wonderful selection of local interest and architecture books. The proprietor is wonderful! It was a treat to meet him after all of my visits there.6 In response to other reviews: I’ve been there dozens of times and never been questioned or seen anyone questioned about whether or not they bought anything. I’ve only seen employees answering questions and dealing with the occasional late-night drunk person very well.

I’ve been coming here for over 5 years and simply cannot walk out without purchasing anything. My favorite book came from here (stay out of New Orleans by P Curran)
Had to replace some books that were lost in a move last year. Gretchen called the owner who promptly told her he’d drop off the book I was hoping to replace along with a new one by the same author. I’ve never had an issue here. Relatively certain that if you have, you were probably a dick. Hope this place sticks around forever.

This little gem sits in the middle of all the hustle and bustle that Frenchmen Street has to offer.Could be at closing when massive party buses drive by or in the middle of the afternoons with tourists doing their tourist thing.

Lots of queer friendly books, odd items that are not to be found anywhere else, some painting supplies, colorings books, tote bags, magnets.

Definitely make a stop in here and pick up a few gifts for your quirky and fun bibliophiles.

Actually really interesting the more I think about it. Yes, all the reviews are correct. You’ll get sized up right away, if they deem you an ally you’ll be fine. You may have to prove fealty if not. Worth stopping in for the cultural bifurcation on display. I was not well received but I got a kick out of it. Pretty fun if you have a twisted sense of curiosity. After reading some of the owners responses it's hard to blame them. However, as serious book collector, the juice isn't worth the squeeze when there are so many options in NOLA. Credit to them for setting themselves apart. I wish I could give it 3 stars but the experience left even my group baffled. Best of luck, I truly wish I could help support this small business. Perhaps I will try online and update my review at a later date.

Nicely curated selection of books. Quality over quantity. Great place for the introvert to step away from the crowd and find your next great read. And they'll stamp your book if you like.

Stopping here on our Saturday night out exploring Frenchmen street was a surprising little highlight. I love a bookstore, and mixed in amongst the bars this was a great little find - a great atmosphere and lots of local themed books to peruse.

Probably one of the best bookshops I've ever visited, the number of books I wanted to bring home with me per sq ft is actually crazy. Deeply impressed with how many solid books there were here. Looking forward to ordering more books I couldn't fit in my vacation budget from them very soon!

Also nothing but respect for asking patrons to use hand sanitizer before browsing, thank you for that 🙂
