I had an embarassing experience yesterday with one of the librarians at the 3rd floor. I already sent an email this morning to express my concern but nobody has responded yet.

I made a short video of myself. Then the librarian at the front desk called me out and said "Are you filming!?" in an irritated tone. So I approached her desk and explained to her that I made a video to share with my family and social media. My purpose was to promote the library to fellow immigrants in my Meta and Instagram page. I even played the video in front of her and her colleague so they could see that I was the only one in the video, nobody else. At this point I felt very embarassed because other people in the library could hear the whole conversation. Good thing her colleague handled the situation better and she nicely explained to me that next time I should ask permission. Because the library is a public space and they didn't want other patrons to be filmed.
I thanked her for making me aware. She also asked for my mobile and email so she could give it to her supervisor. I did receive an email from Rebecca last night telling me that her supervisor knows about my video and that it's fine for me to post it.

I wish the other librarian approached me and spoke to me in private instead of calling me out in front of other patrons. And there weren't any posters or signs warning visitors that they have a policy about taking photos and videos. What bothered me was the fact that many people have already posted videos and photos here on Google. And I think the patrons caught in the videos and photos are unaware of it.

Just because I'm an immigrant, it doesn't mean I'm not knowledgeable about "privacy" or "personal space". I feel like the treatment towards me was unfair. If they had a policy in place, then why are they allowing other people to post videos and photos like that? The admin could've reached out and warned them or asked them to take down the videos. So all this time, I thought it was okay to do a video because other people were posting them here on Google. Very disappointing, I hope someone would reach out to me.

For a while I didn't have cable or internet so I would take out DVDs from this library. They have a huge selection. It's great!

I was positively impressed by selection of books and friendly personnel. Also noticed that you can borrow table games, audio books and even musical instruments. Love libraries so hopefully free winter time will be spent there:) ordering books online is a very nice option as you can choose a pick-up point

I have been there many times over the past 10+ years with all my children and they have loved it. They found the readings exciting. They loved the logo and puzzles. They have adored going through the books, checking out the graphic novels, sitting and relaxing. There is nothing about this gem in the middle of the city.

I love this library and would frequent it often when I lived in St. Johns. Large selection of books and media in a clean and well kept environment. Staff has always been helpful and inviting. Plenty of parking to boot. It could be argued it's the best library in town.

I contacted the library from Ontario seeking assistance with research, and the librarian who helped me went above and beyond. I can't wait to come visit the library next time I'm home.
