As a practicing pagan (specifically Hellenic polytheist,) astrologer, and (beginner) tarot reader, I'm often disappointed by bookstores' limited selection on these topics. Not bookwoman though!! Bookwoman has a beautifully large section of their store dedicated to a multitude of "non-mainstream" religions and spiritual paths ranging from different types of Polytheism to Wicca to divination practices. Bonus points for the fact that they platform LGBT+ authors (last time I visited, I bought The Magic of the Otherworld by the amazing Morpheus Ravena!) I'm excited to visit again when I'm back in Austin ?

Went to listen to several Austin therapists talk about attachment and secure relationships. Great space, great books, really kind and thoughtful people. You should go.

Staff is overfamiliar, belittling, and sometimes just plain rude.

Once I entered the store and saw a young person with a buzz cut looking at one of the shelves, and when I asked if they were a customer or an employee they laughed at me! They actually laughed, and then told me "I greeted you when you came in, it would be weird if a customer did that". I had not heard their greeting over the bells that ring when you open the door. They were quite dismissive towards me in the interaction that followed.

Once an older lady stood (no joke) about six inches away from me and told me every minute detail of their web ordering system when I asked to make an exchange. She denied my request to exchange the book, and then told me that since I couldn't exchange the book, I should give it away and "start a book club". All the while I was edging towards the door, desperately wanting to be released so I could move on to my next errand.

Also, my choices of books have been questioned by employees multiple times. I do not want to have to defend my choices before I am allowed to make a purchase.

It's good that they still require masks! But everything else is a mess.

I want to support small businesses, but it's difficult when every interaction I've had here is so damn awkward.

Visited 7-17-21 and was greeted warmly. We were allowed to peruse in peace. Salesperson was knowledgeable and friendly. Titles and categories addressing so many diverse needs and issues. A true Austin treasure. Parking can be tight. Convenient location. Pleasing aroma in the store.

I knew I'd fall in love with this store just by the window art. I felt welcomed and at home. Very friendly and helpful. There was such a wide variety of beautiful books, art, and gifts. Every black childrens book on my internet wishlist was in store! My son sat and read books in the children's section for 30 minutes, he was so cozy. I can't wait to go back.

We were fine with the mask policy. However, we were the only people in the store and not one time did anyone greet us or come out from what to say anything. On one hand that's fine but we were in there for about 40 minutes. Walked out without anything and it smells not so pleasant.
