One of the best community libraries. Plenty of window-side tables make it ideal for self-study.

Super clean library and friendly staff! But don’t come here if you’re looking for a quiet study or reading spot. At some points in the day there’s quite a few kids yelling and running around after school hours and I get the impression that they aren’t allowed to be corrected or told.

While the library has what it needs in terms of books, games, DVD’s, computer use and programming - I am giving two starts because of the response the librarian had when asked about the use of the piano. There is a sign that says to ask staff if you want to use the piano. Two little girls asked and they were told; not right now because “people are working”. Looking around the library, there was only one individual “working”, and in the middle of the afternoon, in the week, during the summer, when children frequent here often — that was their choice.

Instead of compromising and allowing them to use the piano later on, they were “sorried, maybe next time”.

When I asked the librarian as to why they could not use it, she replied that people are working, I then pointed out that there was only one, male, working. She said when they asked, people were working , and went on to say that she isn’t keeping track of who’s working in ththe library. Well if you’re not keeping track , then how would you know that people are working? People is also a plural world — when there was only one.

As I waited for a more logical and legitimate answer; she then went on to say that it was noisy already and it’s “still a library” , as if I were going to understand where she was coming from.

Why do you have a piano in a library if it cannot be used ? This is an instrument that makes noise. As I come to think of it, I have never heard the piano used when in this library ( not to say that it ever is ) .

Might update this if something changes, I doubt it though.

Update — the librarian allowed the girls to use the piano, before we left. There was 4 of them; they were happy.
