Hiatus House is a joke of a shelter! They do not protect you or help you find a place then kick you out after a couple months. They made false accusations about me and kicked me out early with nowhere to go.
There are positives but ultimately made being abused and homeless more stressful.

Hiatus House is an excellent place for women who've experienced domestic violence. The people that work there are compassionate and understanding. They're there to help with whatever you may need (counseling, advice, food etc.). They've certainly helped me out on several occasions. I've been blessed to have them in my corner and I'm so very grateful for all they've done.

This place used to actually help women in abusive situations. Me and my children were turned away and told to deal with my problems and that they can’t help us because I have a residence. Since when did hiatus house become a homeless shelter? Are you not supposed to be helping women and children out of abusive relationships and providing them a safe place? I was told to just lock my doors and call police if he comes. He already has warrants bro. No regard for my children or my safety at all!

Absolutely incredible. I came in at 18 from an abusive household scared and afraid. They took me in immediately and made sure I was given a clean and safe room with a clean bathroom and shower. Necessities such as towels, razors, shampoo, socks, underwear etc were all provided. Your fed 2 warm meals with breakfast items layed out 24/7. Caseworkers are assigned to you and will help you meet your goals of housing, income and budgeting. Given a month of sanctuary truly helped me out. Don't hesitate. Please don't. Abusive situations seem impossible to overcome but I promise you'll be in good hands with Hiatus 🙂 shout out to the best caseworker ever Erika 🥰❤️

The community there is so kind and patient with you. When I escaped my forced marriage , every time I had an anxiety attack coming even in the middle of the night, they were always there to listen. This place was like a home to me. I’ll never forget about how kind everyone treated me , thank you. - Sitarah 🙂

I was put in a situation when I first arrived where I was obligated to give information I was not comfortable giving. Having been through extensive amounts of abuse, and having experienced emotional, psychological and physical violence, I am obviously dealing with a lot from that trauma, and I felt completely disrespected and pressured by the staff there. When people go through serious trauma and turmoil, making the person feel like they are simply a number going through the "system" and regular old "process" lacked a great deal of humanity and/or compassion, which I believe people in the service to battered womyn should possess. Not only does their paperwork and process feel highly authoritarian and limiting for people of all kinds of backgrounds and experiences, the staff do not make people feel safe, respected or cared for. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. They kick womyn in need of help to the street. BUT for windsor this is the only help group available to womyn. So, I believe there are many womyn in the area going without help who want it and seriously need it. This was my only option, my only opportunity in this city to get the help I need. And because of them, and their limiting system, and inconsiderate staff I will be one of the womyn who goes without. If I was suicidal....they would have bigger outcomes weighing on them from their actions.

Telling a womyn who has been beaten for 3 years, and is obviously experiencing "battered wives syndrome", that in 30 years in the industry you have never had a womyn protect their abuser....not only is rude to say, but entirely ignorant because time and time again womyn of abuse protect their abusers. This place is a joke. Windsor needs a better option. One that is actually going to do womyn in need some good.

Well if your seeking safety from abuse UNDERSTAND that this shelter is compromised they do NOT care about women and children's safety cause this is a hunting ground for men who PRETEND they are biological women. STAY AWAY!!

I called there looking for help while I was in a domestic violence situation and they told me they could not help me! And to just change my locks. They are completely useless! When someone is getting physically beaten and emotionally abused Every day and they’re asking for help and away L and I’m I am asking for a way out and you can help me it is disgusting.
