I found some great books here. I'm happy Maria was able to ship them for me since I was just visiting SF. Prices are fair on some things and a little steep on some as well, but they had the best selection of old/vintage books of all the bookstores I visited in the area. My books arrived yesterday, and everything was packed well.

Terrific spot, I didn’t have the pleasure of going to their old location, but the new shop is bright and welcoming with a friendly shop dog. The selection is small but wonderful to browse through, lots of great vintage stuff. Despite my best laid plans to hold myself to 1 book, I left with 4.

I am sure it was a good bookstore to visit in previous years but, that is no longer true. Don't bother wasting your time making an appointment to see the store. All you get to peruse are the few books in the lobby near the front door and cash register. You do not get to look at the whole store. There was very little to look at. It was not worth walking up all those hills in San Francisco to go to this store. The owner was cold and unfriendly. A terrible visit on our mostly great vacation. When we asked about certain books she told us to look online. Really?

Had a great experience here. Ron was very accommodating on the phone and Maria was also very accommodating in person. Lots of interesting crime novels to see. Regret not going for the rare Charles Willefords I saw. Bought a few cheaper books: Breakout by Richard Stark, Maigret and the Apparition by Georges Simenon and The Big Heat by William McGivern (the latter two were recommended by Maria). Will make another appointment when I'm in the city again.

I agree with a review written by Bonnie Stone. The store no longer has regular hours and it's a fraction if it's original size with most of it partitioned off by curtains. It never had that great of a selection to begin with, though it did have a nice selection of vintage gay magazines. The vintage paperback I purchased with it's highly acidic paper quickly disintegrated upon reading and I certainly didn't buy it for its banal cover!

My fave valley book shop. Not that you have many to choose from, anymore. But for great prices on used books, and selling your old books, you can't beat it! PLUS they have cats that live there, it's so charming!
