Fantastic selection of rpg/tabletop gaming and hobby supplies. Their stock of limited run and otherwise hard-to-get items with limited retail distribution is impressive. I couldn't leave without also adding a few sets of dice to my collection from their in-house rainbow of options. 13/10 - we'll be back!

A great selection of tabletop games, especially for DCC, Mothership, and Cyberpunk Red! Their customer service has been a great help in the past, and they're a part of the Bits and Mortar program.

Giving this place a 3 star since I've had some mixed experiences and wanted to be fair to their benefits rather than strictly focussing on some negative experiences. The stock has been generally great and depending on who you get at the store that day, I've had great shopping experiences too. One in particular helped me find all the paints I needed and equipment to get the scheme I wanted which I think is above and beyond the required customer service. Ordering in has mostly been OK when I've needed something not in stock. I've been able to get most of what I need to do the hobbies I play (D&D, board games, 40K) and have sung their praises to others so I'd say more positive than negative experience wise. But I will say similar to previous reviews, joining their community is a tough nut to crack. Questions like when stock will come in often gets replied with "whenever we get it in" or some sighs or derision when checking out like it was inconvenient to buy. I mean I've got a pretty intimate knowledge of retail so I get it when you're tired, maybe had inventory the previous day or something... There's just some customer polish needed here, it's an easy fix so hopefully they do. I'd say overall, S&B is a good hobby shop, but there are some consistency issues, and I do think they can be a tad protectionist which can feel unwelcoming to newcomers. I do believe these are addressable concerns though, so I won't say "don't come here!" since they may correct these things going forward. Just some things need tightening up in a series of hobbies that are mostly community driven.

This place gave me the ick. First it's dirty, par the course for a hole in the wall hobby shop. I usually love places like this so let me explain. Went in to purchase a set of metal dice, asked about them and the guy behind the counter sighed the prices at me. Sure fine not many people buy expensive dice (I certainly wasn't after having the prices huffed at me). I then asked if the new players handbook had released yet - I have only a moderate interest in DnD - but my guy behind the counter was sure to tell me with an eye roll that hit the moon that it came out six months ago. Lastly I asked if they had a board game in stock, and I was met with the same eye roll attitude that it was between prints. I guess what I'm saying is, unless you know every detail about everything you have an interest in.. the guy behind the counter is gonna idle nerd rage at you behind barely disguised contempt. If you wanna meet the comic book guy from the Simpsons this is your place.

Dear sword and board owner - the point of reviews is for community responsiveness. As so many people over the years are generously taking the time to write long, thorough, clear, detailed reviews about their negative experiences at your store, have you considered that there is validity in their feedback and you should take a long hard look at implementing changes? That they are trying to help you do better? Perhaps you should realize you are the common denominator, and not take the time to write dismissive excuses for “misunderstandings” that all these different people have had. All you need to do is say sorry, accept it, think about how to apply improvements; if your purpose is truly to be a store that seeks to serve a wide community with care as you purport to do. Otherwise, your responses come off like gaslighting and trying to keep up a cozy image to run a busine$$. It is your burden to bear as the owners of a space that if you want to create a safe space for everyone, it’s your responsibility to accept negative feedback and work harder. If you don’t care to do that and don’t want to be a safe welcoming space for certain people, ultimately that’s your prerogative and it’s your business! But then don’t write responses claiming otherwise.

Staff is careless, no hi no thanks no bye-bye, prices are way too high too. Go to 401Games instead, it would be much more fair. Owner of this place needs to do a reality check on employees and market competitiveness.
